Game2: Elmgrove Elite -vs- RiverFlow Mens SC

06/06/2011, 4:53pm (EDT)
By Coach Darrell

It was a great day for soccer. The temperature was not over bearing or muggy as the game was played early in the evening.

As the RiverFlow SC Squad approached the field, they immediately noticed the condition of the field.  The field sits among a couple other fields all of which needed to be cut and properly marked.
The game stated about three minutes behind schedule.
The RiverFlow Mens Soccer team started out strong with most of the possessions of the ball. But it was quickly realized that the Elgrove Elite was a far cry from what their name implied. They were a big, strong and physical team with very little soccer skilled.
Like the first game that they played, RiverFlow Mens Soccer team score first. It was a lob shot by the sticker, Addikadir Abdi, who found the Elmgrove Elite goalkeeper off his line. He tried to recover but was too late as the ball was already at the back of the net.
Shortly after that, the rest of the game became very sloppy. The RiverFlow team drastically dropped their level of play to that of the Elmgrove Elite squad. This degraded play became most obvious as we put in a lone goal about 5 minutes before the half.
The first half ended with the score 1-1.
The second half started and the RiverFlow SC team showed once again that they were the better team on the field. Ball possession and ball movements were again being executed. But like the first half, the RiverFlow SC team began to play the style of their opponent. And it became sloppy and a little physical.
During the last 15 minutes of the game, the Riverflow SC team turns the game around.  There was a slight adjustment made in the midfield. The pass became more accurate which resulted with two quick goals, one from sticker, Addikadir Abdi , and the other from defender/midfielder, Uduelo Hamisi.
Despite the field conditions, (grass not cut), and the sloppy play, the RiverFlow SC team never stopped playing. They blunder a few opportunities but in the end got their well deserved fist victory of the season.
 Elmgrove Elite – 1    RiverFlow SC - 3
RiverFlow Mens SC has a record of 1-0-1 for the season.

Game1: FC BONIA -vs- RiverFlow SC

06/01/2011, 9:25am (EDT)
By Coach Darrell

The RDSL has officially begun. We were chopping at the bits to get the season started not really knowing of it would ever happen because of the rainy weather.

We played our first game on 05/25/2011 against Bosnia FC.
Being a new team in the league, we played a well balance game in the first half. We strike first blood about the 20th minute of the game from a combination of well played passed and a composed finished by our outside right midfielder, David Chavez Lopez. We had numerous other opportunities to score of which we failed to capitalize on.
Being an experience team, the Bosnians’ stick to their game plan and it paid off about minute to go in the first half when they score on counter attack.
The game was 1-1 at the half.
The second half started much the same way. We controlled much of the tempo of the game. But about 15 minutes in, fatigue seems to get the best of us. The Bosnian squad sense that and score three quick goals to make it 4-1.
During this time, there was an altercation between one of our players and a Bosnian player which resulted in a rejection (Red Card) of our player.
Despite player a man down, we continue playing as a team. Our persistence paid off as our left defensive player, Jabari Stuart slotted a perfect pass through two defenders to Addikadir Abdi who wasted no time in putting the ball pass the goal keeper.
The game ended in a loss for us, 4-2.
Our next game is Sunday 6/5/5011 against Elmgrove Elite

Conditioning and Fitness Soccer Training

01/09/2011, 3:44pm (EST)
By Coach Darrell

Being nifty on the ball means nothing unless you can match it with the physical capabilities to stay strong throughout the game.  Working on drills to increase endurance, improve reaction speed and boost athleticism will give you the edge.

Please Note: Dress for the outdoor weather.

To prevent your feet (toes) from getting too cold, wrap your feet, after you have your socks on,  with a couple of plastic bags. Also, wear water resistance pants and shirts. Cotton materials will easily get wet from the snow.

Now, lets get to training for a successful seaon.
